Club Group Rides

Read the ride description for information on ride tempo (speed), start location, and start time. Weeknight start times and ride distance depend on available daylight and tempo. Ride times are posted on our Home Page. You don't have to be a club member to ride with us but we do have a couple of common sense guidelines:

  • Ride leaders will welcome everyone, review the theme of the ride (see below), go over ride etiquette and safety, and lead introductions.
  • Wear a helmet.
  • Leave your iPod/MP3 player at home.
  • Bring your road bike (we like mountain bikes and time trial bikes but they aren't compatible with group riding).
  • You'll have more fun and a better ride if your tires are properly inflated, your chain is clean and lubed, and you have a spare tube or patch kit and a pump.

Weekday Evening Club Rides

These are our most popular rides. These rides start at the corner of Dobbins/Main St, downtown, Vacaville at 6pm.

Monday Beginner Group Ride (lead by Laurie Fenech).A beginner group ride (average 15 mph; approximately 1:45 hours) mentored by experienced Monticello members. Come to our group ride, meet our community, learn to ride safely and stay fit. This evening is for cyclists who have been riding a bike for a year, are comfortable on a bike and ready to share some cycling experience with a group. We emphasize safety, leadership, and being a courteous community rider. Our beginner course is an out and back through Pleasants Valley road; a 20 mile ride. Come and enjoy this new experience and meet new friends.

Tuesday Ride (lead by Mike Fine). (Up Tempo: 18 - 25 mph, approximately 1.5 hours) A moderate to fast tempo ride for experienced group riders around the Winter's Loop (around 32 miles). This ride we practice safety, etiquette, and hone group riding skills at speed and build fitness. Regroup by soft pedaling after each sprint.

Thursday Ride (lead by Laurie Fenech). (Tempo: 17 - 24 mph, approximately 1:45 hours) A moderate tempo ride for intermediate to experienced group riders around the Winter's Loop (around 32 miles). This ride we practice safety, etiquette, and hone group riding skills, and build fitness. Regroup by soft pedaling after each sprint.

Saturday Ride

Decide and Ride. Pace pretty much determined by who shows up; sometimes splits into faster and less fast groups. Sometimes a Winters loop, but sometimes a Lake Loop or Gordon Valley and maybe up Mount George and into Napa. Sometimes a flat ride through the orchards.

Rides any Day

Saturdays, Sundays, in fact, any days. Members are welcome to suggest a ride that you wish to lead to the club. Send an email to the group here.

FLAT REPAIR
Before showing up on any club ride you should know how to fix a flat tire. Before setting out on any ride you should know your bike is in good working order, be carrying a pump, tire tools and a spare tube. Also carrying a patch kit is recommended. If you need instruction on repairing flats, talk to Mike Posey at Ray's Cycle. They generally are willing to offer a clinic once they have a big enough group of interested riders.
