WEEKDAY EVENING RIDES
Hello everyone,
For those of you who don’t know me may name is Gregg
Lehman and I am the ride coordinator for MCC this
year. I wanted to add a few things before we start
our group rides this year. Some things to consider
before attending a particular ride:
What is my fitness level? Can I maintain the pace
advertised? It is not fair to the ride leader or
other riders if you are disrupting the group by not
being able to maintain the speed of a ride (this means
going too fast as well as too slow). If you find that
the pace of a ride is too fast simply tell the person
in front of you (assuming you have the chance) not to
wait up and politely drop out of the ride. If you are
too fast for a ride you should still hang with the
group and help the slower riders (obviously this does
not hold true for Wed. race ride). Do not string the
ride out. Slow down to the pace of the ride. After
that don’t attend the ride again.
What is my riding ability? Can I ride safely at the
pace advertised? Being super fit is not enough. If
you cannot handle your bike safely at a given speed
you are not only dangerous to yourself but everyone
around you.
Both items above are part of the bigger subject of
group ride etiquette. If you plan on attending a
group ride take a moment to familiarize yourself with
proper ride etiquette. There are lots of resources on
the web. This is a great link for those unfamiliar
with proper group etiquette:

I look forward to a great season of riding. I will
need volunteers to lead the rides throughout the
season. Please contact me if you are interested. If
you have questions or concerns about a particular ride
please contact me.
Ride Safe,
Gregg
These are our most popular rides.
These all start at Town
Square (Clock tower)
Tuesday
5:30PM Beginner
This was one of
our most popular rides last year. It also became the
biggest source of contention amongst club members so I
feel the need to restate the purpose of this ride.
This ride is for BEGINNER riders. It is designed to
help riders new to the sport learn about riding in a
group (etiquette) and gain fitness in a safe and
friendly environment. It is also great for those
riders that are getting back into cycling and trying
re-gain some fitness or just the feel of the bike. I
want to remind everyone that the pace of this ride
will be dictated by the ride leader (Manual) and will
be adjusted according to the group needs. In all
cases the average speed for this ride will be slow
(probably 14-15 mph or even slower if needed). If you
feel the need to go faster than this do not show up
for this ride. Check out Thursday or Wednesday. As
the website states – leave your egos.

light Intermediate/Expert
Go as fast as you want. We do
not regroup on this ride. Soft pedaling after each
sprint is appreciated by those that sprint but not
required. If you plan on attending this ride you
should be fit and have the ability to ride safely at a
race pace (25+ mph).

of things (or not), and meet maybe some new women riders. Please let
your female rider friends know about it, the more the merrier/. We
will decide pace and distance according to who shows up. This ride
will be led by JoAnn Clark and Jo Hewitt (the Jo Jo's!)

Intermediate
Our most
popular ride. There are riders of all abilities out
on this ride. If you plan on attending this ride you
should have a basic understanding of ride etiquette
and be reasonably fit (average speed is around 17-19
mph but can get to 20+ depending on the size and
ability of the group). We re-group at two locations –
On Pleasants Valley Road at the turn for Putah Creek
Road and where Winters Road (freeway frontage road)
intersects Allendale road. Please remember, all
people attending this ride are expected to observe the
regroup points. If you find the pace is too slow or
that you are waiting too long for other riders please
come out to the Wednesday night ride. We would love
to have you. In turn, if you find that the group is
having to wait an excessively long time for you
possibly consider the Tuesday ride or informing the
group not to wait for you. Click

SATURDAY
RIDE
Saturdays.
8:00AM Meeting location. Pure Grain
Bakery, on the town square, downtown Vacaville.
Decide and Ride. Pace pretty much determined by who shows up. Sometimes a
Winters loop, but sometimes a
Lake
Loop
or Gordon Valley and Maybe up Mount George. Sometimes a flat ride through the orchards.
MONDAYS
AND FRIDAYS:
9:00 AM - Ray's
Cycle (maps to Ray's
Cycle provided within the club sponsors page) The ride varies from day to day it may be a recovery ride or a high tempo workout.
Saturdays, Sundays in fact any days. Members are welcome to submit ride that you wish to lead to the newsletter.
Or send an email through the groups here.
FLAT REPAIR Before showing up on any club ride you should already have had some practice on repairing a flat tire.
Before setting out on any ride you should be carrying a pump, tire tools and a spare tube. Also carrying a
patch kit is recommended. If you need instruction on repairing flats, talk to Mike Posey at
Rays Cycle. They
generally are willing to offer a clinic once they have a big enough group of interested riders.
